PRAKSIS and Karmaklubb* present an evening of performance, conversation, music, and dance.

The evening begins with a series of “bring and brag” dialogues between artist Harold Offeh and guests including the Queen Ryona Crystal, in which objects serve to evoke queer experiences of nighttime Oslo. After this, a performative intervention by Jonathan Hielkema will play on notions of the “authentic self”. Post-performance music, dancing and celebration will be hosted in the welcoming ambience of the Baba Bar. Tunes by: DJ Brødskive. Dress code: normcore/light effort/as outrageous as you dare!

More Information

This event is part of PRAKSIS’s 29th residency For real? (March 10-April 6), an exploration of ideas of authenticity and identity in art and society, developed in collaboration with Harold Offeh.

Harold Offeh (UK) probes the construction of identity and history within cultural tropes, using performance, video, photography, and the methodologies of social arts practice. His work has been featured at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the Studio Museum in Harlem and other leading international venues.

Ryona Crystal (Brasil) is an international queen who has been shining on stages all over Norway and abroad. She is known for her professional production and passionate performances. She tells stories inspired by queer lifestyle and culture.

Jonathan Hielkema (Netherlands) uses film, installation and publishing to examine subjects such as privilege, common sense and the status quo, and reflect his own complicity in those constructs. His work has been shown at Les Rencontres d’Arles, Rozenstraat, Foam, Swab Art Fair and Nest, with support from the Mondriaan Fund and the Creative Industries Fund.

DJ Brødskive (Norway) started DJing in the Oslo underground in 2020, and has worked both as a DJ and booker with QCC – Queer Community Club, Oslo Drag Festival, SALT Art & Music, Grenland Pride, Posten Bring, Open Drag Stage, Goldie, Elsker, Oslo Pride, The Villa and many more. They oscillate between different music genres, but have a solid foundation in alternative 80s disco sounds, hypnotic techno, jungle/dnb and dub, as well as music you can sing along with.

PRAKSIS Oslo, a not-for-profit arts organisation dedicated to fostering dialogue and collaboration across disciplines, connects artists and thinkers locally and internationally. It organises artists’ residencies, public events, youth programmes and in-print and online publications.

Karmaklubb* is a nomadic platform for critical reflection, queer celebration and the creation of spaces for visibility and joy. Its programme includes club nights, artists’ talks, screenings, performances, panel discussions, partying and dinners.
